Osprey Rescued By Fisherman At Twin Lakes

This Osprey was rescued by a fisherman at Twin Lakes near Bridgeport. He watched a
Bald Eagle dive at the Osprey. Usually the eagle tries to force the Osprey to drop its
catch, but he knocked the Osprey into the water! Sometimes called “Fish Eagles,”
Osprey may partially submerge when catching a fish but are not waterproof. If one can’t lift off immediately, he will become wet, hypothermic, and eventually drown.

The fisherman pulled the bird from the water and took him to an ESWC volunteer who got
him warm and dry. The osprey rested over night and was released at Twin Lakes the
next day, safe and sound, and hopefully a little more cautious.
