Wildcare Eastern Sierra Continues to Help Wildlife
Keough Hot Springs, CA, March 29, 2020 - During this uncertain time, Wildcare is continuing to admit wildlife (bird, mammal, reptile) that needs our care while making a few adjustments to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, and rescuers. [Wild animals cannot transmit the Covid-19 to anyone. However, it is always good to wear gloves if you can to avoid scratches or bites.]
NEED HELP OR ADVICE? If you have a wildlife situation of any sort, contact us by phone (760-872-1487).
If the animal is in your possession, plan to bring it to us at the Center at Keough’s if at all possible and as soon as possible. If you can’t bring it, let us know and we will attempt to find a volunteer who can transport it.
Contact us by phone (760-872-1487) to make arrangements before coming. Over the phone, please provide your name, phone number, address, and when and where the animal was found.
Place the animal in a snug, padded container in the back of your vehicle as far from you as possible. Keep the patient warm. A soda bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in a dishtowel or old t-shirt works well.
Call us again when you arrive at the center (you can toot your horn, too). Someone will come to your car and collect the animal, staying as far from you as possible. We will leave all blankets and boxes with you, the rescuer.
If rescue is needed, please make sure to give us your contact phone number and the best possible description of the animal’s location and time seen. As usual, we will do our best to find and rescue the animal.
Living with Wildlife calls: We’ll also attempt to help with problems such as animals under your home or shed, trapped in a building, etc.) For over-the-phone counseling, call us at 760-872-1487. Any further action we take will depend on the physical setting and only if our helpers can remain distanced from others.
Here’s wishing that you and yours stay safe and well.
